Still can’t get your hands on Lufsig the wolf? Fans now have another outlet for their admiration of the unlikely symbol of protest: an online game where the cuddly toy wolf battles with Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.
The online game “CY & Lufsig” at website lomosai.com has so far attracted 140,000 hits from 53,000 internet users since its launch on Friday, its developer Andy Li Yu-hin said.
“The Chief Executive doesn’t do too well these days, ignoring the views of the people,” he said. “People need other channels to let their emotions out – maybe that’s why they like the game.”
In the two-dimensional game which resembles the popular computer arcade game Pac-Man, Leung gains points by eating white dots in a maze while dodging Lufsigs chasing him.
More elements will be added to the game next week, including bonus fruits and eggs, and new character lawmaker “Long Hair” Leung Kwok-hung, Li said. The team will also work on a mobile application of the game.
The 23-year-old worked with partners Jeffrey Law Wai-yee and David Lam Wing-wai to finish the game in two days. Despite its simplicity, it is the team’s most successful game so far.
Lufsig the toy wolf has been swept off the shelves at various Ikea stores in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Chengdu since it became the latest symbol of opposition against the local government.
It was thrown by protesters at Leung at a forum a week ago, and its translated name on the mainland sounded like a profanity related to the female genitalia in Cantonese. Ikea has subsequently changed the translation, saying it “regretted” the “unfortunate” coincidence.
