IDA investigating threat by "Anonymous" to leak personal data of public officers and more

The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) is investigating a threat made by a member claiming to be from the hacktivist group, Anonymous, and has alerted the police.

Tech-news website ZDNet reported on Friday evening that it had received a statement from "Anonymous" containing personal information, such as the names, government email addresses, birth dates, nationalities, passport numbers and mobile phone numbers of 10 individuals.

"Anonymous" had said in the statement that it intends to publicise the information over the next day, adding that the list is "the tail end of a file containing the personal information of thousands of people associated with a certain Singaporean security corporation that does much business with the government".

Based on the email addresses included in the statement, ZDNet said the people in the list were from various agencies such as the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau, and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

IDA looking into possible compromise of employee records following email threat

SINGAPORE: The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is looking into any possible compromise of employee records following an email threatening to release the personal information of thousands of people associated with a Singaporean security corporation linked to the government.

IDA has also alerted the police of the email, who was sent by someone claiming to be a member of the hacker group Anonymous.

An IDA spokesman revealed this early on Saturday morning in response to a query from Channel NewsAsia about a reported threat from Anonymous over the recent arrests of individuals over the defacement of government websites.

He added that all government agencies have to comply with the government IT security policies and best practices such as conducting regular security tests, scanning for vulnerabilities, and conducting security reviews and audits.

The agencies are also required to protect all data in their possession to guard against unauthorised access, disclosure or modification, whether accidental or intentional.

Where third party vendors are involved, service level agreements are in place to ensure that they maintain the required level of security.

The spokesman said: "Cyber threats are on the rise globally against governments, businesses and individuals. The Singapore government takes cyber security seriously. We do not condone actions designed to intimidate the government."

IDA urges businesses and individuals to take the necessary precautions to enhance cyber security.
