SINGAPORE: Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has foiled another attempt to smuggle contraband cigarettes into Singapore.

A total of 1,180 cartons of cigarettes were seized from a lorry which was transporting a consignment of men's shirts at the Changi Airfreight Centre on Monday morning.

The estimated value of the illegal cigarettes is about S$115,000 and the potential customs duty and GST payable for the cigarettes amounted to almost $100,000.

The 51-year-old Singaporean driver and his Singaporean assistant are assisting Singapore Customs in the investigation of this case.
