Flyer's dawn-flight tickets snapped up

ALL 3,500 free tickets for the first dawn flight on the Singapore Flyer - as part of the First Light festival - have been snapped up.

First Light - a new arts and culture festival organised by The Arts House in partnership with Singapore Flyer to celebrate community bonding and racial harmony - has received an overwhelming response since it was launched two weeks ago.

The event, which takes place between 4.30am and 7am on July 24 at the Singapore Flyer, will celebrate the Singapore of the 21st century by using the symbolism of the break of dawn - first light - as a call to embrace multi-ethnicity and inclusiveness. The festival, supported by the National Integration Council, also aims to promote a feeling of national pride, especially among new citizens.

William Phuan, director for arts development at The Arts House, said: 'The festival supports the national priority of integration, as we recognise that the social-cultural fabric of Singapore is evolving. Through First Light, we hope to help build closer cohesiveness and foster stronger inter-cultural ties.'

Showcasing artistic presentations through the universal language of music, dance, story-telling and visual arts - as well as the social glue of food - the event will reinforce Singapore as a home where people welcome diversity. First Light is being held in conjunction with the Orange Ribbon Celebrations, a month-long celebration of racial harmony with the theme 'Friendship Without Borders'.
