What's the big deal about the Hunter? It used to be called the Next Generation AFV (NGAFV). I have written about that here before. This was supposed to be the light tank chassis that ST was developing for the SAF after the fuckup with the Bionix. But when the SAF bought the Leos instead, they just KIV this until now. Anyone who believes what the SAF says that this AFV is replacing the M113 Ultra is a moron. The Bionix is and always has been the M113 replacement. Mark my words, they will just make the SAF buy a small token number, probably no more then 100 units. The main purpose of the Hunter is to have it adopted by the SAF, work out all the kinks, and then enter the upcoming US Army Bradley fighting vehicle replacement contest with a mature platform. If they win the competition, it will be big bucks for them. ST must fancy their chances after coming in second best at the USMC competition. That is why the Hunter is made from all parts that are acceptable to Uncle Sam,eg. engine and transmission from American supplier, Samson turret from Rafael of Israel, 30mm Bushmaster, etc.

ST will have a chance because they will team up with an established US contractor and jointly bid on the Bradley replacement contract. that contract should be good for 2000 units at least, if they win it. Not to mention foreign country sales too. But as I have written before, a small country like singapore, never been to war, has the following APCs/AFVs 1) Legacy M113 Ultras (still competent due to upgrades), 2) Bionix 1 3) Bionix 2 4) Terrex 5) Hunter. How fucking stupid is that? And not to mention, why do 3 cooks have to be in the kitchen for this? SAF, DSTA and ST? You could kick DSTA out of the design team, and you would not notice the difference.
