Last November, S.M. Yang and his family bought a 1,313 square foot flat in the central region of Singapore for S$880,000 (US$630,000). Like the rest of the 1 million or so flats in Singapore’s public housing stock, it is on a 99-year lease, and Yang’s property has 64 years left on the present term.
Yang, who is in his 40s and works in the creative industry,
“After all the renovations, my home should be worth more than S$1 million,” said Yang’s wife.
