There is no answer how lawyer Lo was singled out and killed.

Most people will say---at wrong place wrong time.

But did we ask ourselves, how the negotiation took place and what were transpired ? If there was no negotiation, how the Mumbai Govt handled the terrorists if some hostages are saved and not the lawyer.

Mumbai Terrorists must have beening watching world news in the hotel while they hoped for a big loot.

Why would Hsien Loong want to air internationally like a commando , and offered help to Indian Govt to secure release of Lawyer Lo ?

Did Hsien Loong expose Lawyer Lo identity unintentionally ???

Mumbai unlike Singapore is not the playground of PAP, singapore is just an isle. Nonetheless, Mas also could escape is telling sign of PAP weakness !

Hsien Loong could have kept himself at low profile and not let off at half gun when dealing with terrorists he is not familiar.

Whether Lawyer Lo was singled out or not is anybody guess. The terrorists defintely know who they were killing.
Please take note that indians are not stupid people like the 66% in singapore.

Hsien Loong not being humble may get singapore into deep trouble in future.
Singapore cannot last out one terrorist attack.

Not everything is about winning votes.

It is better for hsien Loong to stick to Chillies and onions, Chingay festival, and YO celebrations, or augurations.

Good points.

Seems that our Elites and Scholars are only good for peace time management but not crisis management.

That's not true. LHL single handedly saved many lives in the Sentosa Cable Car incident.

That shows how well he can handle a crisis.

LOL! I don't want to rub it in but since you have mentioned that, well, for such crisis, how long did he use to resolve it?

Well, I was told that it was with an Australian Airforce officer's help that the crisis is being resolved; else, we would have resort to use ladders on a boat to do the rescue! LOL!

Trying to give credit to some low down helicopter pilot was obviously a dirty smear campaign against LHL by some two bit opposition party.

The fact remains that it was LHL who conducted to whole operation and brought it to a successful conclusion. Without him, there would have been much greater loss of life!

The disaster happened shortly after 6 pm when the oil rig, which was being towed away from Keppel Wharf, became entangled in the cable and caused it to snap. It also left thirteen people trapped in four other cable cars between Mount Faber and Sentosa.

This accident was the first involving death or injury since the cable car system opened in 1974. A total of seven people died in the cable car tragedy.

This operation involved all the three Services of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The Diving Unit of the Singapore Navy was assigned to conduct the underwater search for the passengers in the two cable cars which had plunged into the sea. It took the unit three hours before they recovered the four bodies from the cable cars. On land, the Army had established an operations HQ and medical facilities at the wharf-side.

The main rescue effort was undertaken the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). The 120 Squadron of the RSAF were tasked to rescue the people who were still trapped in the four cable cars as the cars could not be moved along the remaining cables. Though an extremely risky measure, it was considered the fastest and safest way as the cable cars might plunge into the sea at any moment.

Helicopters from the squadron, fitted with floodlights approached one of the cable cars. Despite the strong winds and danger, an airman was winched down. He reached for the door of the cable-car, unlocked it and went inside. He soon came out with the first of the rescued who was strapped to his body by a harness. The winch quickly pulled both of them to safety. This was repeated until all thirteen passengers were brought to safety. The rescue took three and a half hours of risky hovering in darkness and high wind conditions. The competence and daring of the air crew was instrumental in the success of the rescue.

The first person rescued was Mr Allan Gregory Brown, a twenty-year old New Zealander who exclaimed, "Thank you, Singapore!" Another Canadian woman hugged and kissed the winch operator in the helicopter. The recipient of this gratitude, Staff Sergeant Ho Tzu Keng said, "It is worth more than a thousand words."

This daring operation was directed by then COL Lee Hsien Loong, Chief of Staff (General Staff). COL Lee praised the daring young men of the RSAF 120 Squadron for their performance as the operation was difficult and dangerous. He said, "We are relieved ... that we managed to rescue all the people who were stranded on the cable cars. We are proud of the pilots and crewmen who were involved and whose performance made possible the success of the plan."

Dear Sam,

I am simply stating a plain finding:

From Wikipedia,

"The most risky rescues were undertaken by the Royal Australian Navy Lieutenant (now Commodore) Geoff Ledger, who was in Singapore to help train SAF pilots. He piloted his helicopter to allow winchman Lance Corporal Selvanathan to enter two cabins hanging only by their towline. Lt. Ledger later commented that language difficulties were a complication.[1][2] The rescue mission took three and a half hours of risky hovering in darkness and high wind conditions."

It is seriously an over statement in saying "Without him, there "would have been much greater loss of life!" LOL!

I guess you are underestimating the capability of our army in saying that he is the only "talent" that could conduct such operations. And the truth is, without the extraordinary air crews, it would not be possible for such rescue operations to take place... no matter how good or whoever your conducting officer was.

Just where you got your story ah Sam? hmm... www.mindef.gov.sg - That settles the point!

It certainly does. Mindef and the SAF are highly respected organisations and their websites contain cold hard facts uncoloured by political propaganda.

On the other hand, websites run by losers with an axe to grind with the SG govt contain nothing but lies, inuendo and in some cases, fiction of the highest order.

All complex operations in ANY arena require specialists. The cable car rescue was no different. However, had it been left to a lesser mortal, Foreign Talent may well have been barred from taking part in the rescue operation for the sake of maintaining national pride.

However, LHL recognised way back in 1983 that in order for things to go well in Singapore, foreign talent was indespensible as ordinary native Singaporeans simply don't have what it takes to get the really important jobs done. This lesson learned has served us well till today!

Had LHL shunned the involvement of foreigners, more lives would have been lost on that fateful day.

Fast forward to 21st century and we can see the astounding progress that SG has achieved thanks to Foreign Talent. Without them, the country would never have progressed the way it has and ordinary Singaporeans would all be a lot poorer in more ways than one.
