According to IRAS, Singapore will charge GST on low-value goods in 2023. Currently, first $400 is not taxable.

I wonder how is ICA going to enforce this at the Causeway? Will this cause massive jams?

Everyday so many Malaysian cars & Singapore cars smuggle so many things, does it mean that ICA will really be so hardworking and make every car to declare the value of groceries in their car? They don't even bother to check lorries these days.

More frivolous taxes, fares, fees, fines, levies. The govt is broke.

Goods that are usually bought by low SES group. You already qualify as low SES if you have to go and buy stuff from JB.

Sometimes it's to buy and eat stuff that are not available in Sinkieland.

Heng Ah ! They cannot tax the petrol filled up at JB custom.

who cares about low or high SES? is that really important?

I just want to know how effective is such enforcement? I already ask what if i buy a $400.01 phone, they think i will tell them and show them the receipt in their face? oh pls.

As long as you don't carry the new box with you, they will not know. Otherwise, when you put your bag through the scanner, they will ask when they see it.

Yup, exactly.. I can just use the phone immediately and throw the box away or best, mail the box back to sg using Malaysia Post.
