I think I may have 20 kg worth of porcelain ware to bring back from overseas. Even if they are new and nicely packed, I still don't think it's safe to check in. However, I definitely do not have enough hand carry allowance to bring them on board.

What do you normally do ? Is there a special way to check in such fragile items ?

If you are flying in from Japan I assure you that the seller will wrap it very nicely and safely which you do not have to worry. If not, bubble wrap. Regardless where you flying from use a good bag, I insist on something like this, cannot compromise -

Your aluminum bags are not shock proof. They will just throw and the shock will shatter the porcelain. But I plan to get one of these. The small one looks really cool.

The consensus so far is to bubble wrap them. I will see what the supplier can do. Anything, it's not coming from Japan. Japan is sometime in July.

Yes its not shockproof as a matter of fact nothing is however at least its hard and sturdy with Fragile sticker should help. I hope you are not travelling on budget airlines because I have ben told they are not gentle with luggage.

Oh you may wanna buy extra insurance for your goods and oh do be reminded you may have to pay GST on your return if its over limit.

ask supplier 2 do shipping 4 u lor ... pass ur worry 2 ur supplier ...

if you're flying out of u.s. must leave luggage lock open upon check in. otherwise, (federal) dhs personnel in baggage handling area will scan your luggage for suspicious items and open your luggage by force or by "knifing through" the zipper if your bags have zippers. if suspicious items are harmless such as jars of jam or bottles of wine, they will leave a note saying they have opened and inspected your bag. if flying in, dogs will sniff for suspicious items and if dog freezes at your bags, customs will ask you to open your luggage.
