WARNING - Graphic content: A construction worker has narrowly avoided death after a metal rod went through this throat.
The victim, known only by surname as Kan, said he was working on a building site in Xiaogan, China, when he heard something above him.
When he looked up, an iron bar fell straight through his cheek, through his mouth and throat, and down into his back.

Doctors say Kan is incredibly lucky to survive after the rod narrowly missed a vital artery in his chest, which, if ruptured, would have killed him.
Kan is now recovering in hospital after the bar was removed during a four-hour operation, according to The Mirror.
