Unenforced – a mockery of a law

CNA clarifies that “The new law is to encourage responsible drinking and considerate behaviour. As long as members of the public act in an appropriate behaviour and are not rowdy, the police will not step in and instead, focus on the more problematic areas.” Iswaran says as much himself.

Did he actually say that Parliament passed a new law but that the Government wouldn’t enforce it in its entirety? Then why pass it in its entirety? One application of the law for one group and another application of the law for another group is just going to be a big mess. Not to mention that it is unjust, inequitable, and shakes the foundations of why we have laws in the first place.

Iswaran also “emphasised that the intent is not to penalise the mere possession of alcohol.” Well, if the house doesn’t intend to penalise the mere possession of alcohol, then why pass a law that penalises the mere possession of alcohol? The loose logic baffles me.

Grey areas – impossible to police

The existence of grey areas is another sign that this law is going to be problematic. It will either result in people getting away with breaking the law, or result in abuse of the interpretation by the police. Perhaps both.

This letter to TODAY spells out some of these grey areas...https://doulosyap.wordpress.com/2015/02/02/parliaments-new-drinking-law-not-steady-on-its-feet/

What a joke. Passing a law with no intention of enforcing it is wayang at it's best. This show there is no respect for the rule of law and law is passed like toilet paper.

chao chee bye ban my online poker.i dont gamble,i dont drink,i dont buy toto,4d,bet horses or soccer.u take away my only hobby wtf is the point of living in this goddam country?

As in many of the so-called laws in Peesai, the FAP Traitors have no resources to enforce them. They are meant to cover their kar chng - and to tekan the Oppos if need be. These so-called laws get passed because 60% Dafties VTI i.e. Vote Them In regardless.

Pple must b daft if they think gahment has intention to act theirlaw. Take oldfart. On numerous occasion he has been seditious did isd invite him for kopi. Take wuss Anton Casey.is he in jail.

Implementation of the law is dependent on the policemen on the beat. We have seen how, even at station inspector level, they have to call their bosses at home to ask for instructions. WTF.

The Singapore's Parliament just passed a bill that will ban the sale and public drinking from 10.30pm to 7am island-wide. The law is expected to take effect in April and I, for one, will be most interested in seeing how the police will enforce the law.

This is mainly because of the very loose definition of “public space” and the timing of the ban. I don’t just mean the question of why a coffee-shop would be considered a public space, but also how would the law be enforced! I mean would enforcement officers go to a wedding dinner (for example) to make sure no one can order more beer after 10.30pm? If a coffee-shop is a public space, why not a restaurant?

For those of you who would say the law was designed strictly for foreign workers; I agree. There's no other reason why foreign worker dormitories would be considered "public space otherwise but the problem is that the government felt a need to disguise the law. The need for pretense meant that the law, at least on the books, is for everyone in Singapore.

Good news; the law probably means that wedding dinners will end sooner. That is if it is enforceable.

To set the record straight...how you interpret A double Yellow Line...?

It means no parking for some and and not for others..

Just re-cap what happened two weeks ago, when LTA officer did not issue summons for those parked on the Yellow double lines..

So will this law subject to the whims n fancy and will see who is holding the parties.?
