K Shanmugum's ass luck is amazing and I am impressed. I tot Ah Seng had ass luck when MSK fled. Now than I know that was not the worst yet. Gangs are unafraid of arrests and still in bloody violence daily. Something that Singapore had not seen in last 30 years. Singapore's public security is regressed back to 1950s. Ah Seng was so luck to had fled like MSK from Home Team. Now who is the one to take the ass luck? K Shanmugum for sure! Before he knew anything and just took over he got his ass burnt like that. Chao Tah already! Like BBQ!

:D:D

Finished! How to hold GE?

Elections are not due till Feb 2011. Time is on the ruling party's side. Singaporeans are very forgetful and forgiving. Unless the gang violence or more 50years type of things happen, the voters will go for the 'tried and tested', 'safe then sorry' option.
Singaporeans are just like the frogs in boiled water, the analogy that was highlighted by PM Lee previously. It shows he knows Singaporeans well.

Shan has a rather cocky face, perhaps due to his career success in law.

I see fr his face the "MY MANDATE IS FR HEAVEN" Look.

In any normal country,he would be a difficult condidate who can't win.

same as Ah Seng and several other PAP ministers.

Many Sporeans are still out of a job & facing financial difficulties,......, so I doubt many are going to forget.

Xmas is next month & the season of giving, many will be reminded at how little they have. When Chinese New Year rolls by & they don't get their red packets, they'll want someone to blame:rolleyes:

We can always hope.
It might take a minor miracle to see something similar to Malaysian politics happen here (shift of voters). But like i said i am still hopeful and hope to be able to see it happen in my lifetime.

All the dark skin fellas, are cocky!!

I wouldn't put it down to luck or the lack of it. These things that happened - MSK and recent 369 madness, are no lotteries whereby luck is the only factor.

I say complacency and incompetence are the two factors not luck or no luck.

Complacency because S'pore is not a war zone. Neither do we have major incidents whereby the leadership of the police is severely tested. This gave the leadership a false sense of success and competency.

Incompetency from the top down to the bottom. The bottom feed the top what the top wants to hear. They say street corner gangs only involved in petty crimes. They never expected petty crimes to include fatal stabbings and causing grevious hurt. Now they do. A little too late I suppose.

Incompetency beacause they placed the wrong people at key posts. These chaps don't understand the ground and yet goes round thinking they are the panacea. It's a vicious cycle alright.

What you have described literally depict the entire government and local work culture and not just the law enforcement agencies alone. Key posts in every agencies are held by individuals whom are highly qualified academically but lack the proper experience or acumen. They are living in denial from reality.

The bottom strata are painting a rosy picture only what the top would like to hear. They know nothing will change by going against the flow of things. So these people at the bottom are just being selfish by protecting their own rice bowl but compromising at the expense of the greater picture.

People at the bottom (mid and low mgmt) will not rock the boat coz they must have witnessed their category of people marginalised or cold storaged for expressing "hostile" opinions and views. Hostile here means anything the top hates to hear.

People at the bottom are likely to have witnessed that being politically correct - in behaviour and statements comes with rewards, directly or indirectly. So, there you have it. A vicious cycle that repeats itself.

Yes, this occurs all over govt ministries. The private sector thrives on $ & cents. It's hire and fire. The public sector thrives on blind obedience and compliance.
