HOLY SHIT!!! Look at the fucking crowd at Bishan MRT station!!!!! No-porn Lui, are u reading dis? Do u still defend fare hike to pay dat smrt m'sian CEO bitch millions dollars salary?
Utter chaos at Bishan, 1 hour wait for bus at Woodlands and other real-life horror stories
Packed train platforms, snaking long queues -- these are scenes shared by STOMPers upset with the standard of public transport in Singapore, following SBS Transit and SMRT's bid to implement the largest public transport fare hike in recent years.
Both public transport providers' bids have thus far been poorly received by Singapore commuters. The proposal is currently under review by the Public Transport Council, with a result expected in late September.
STOMPers Virdi and Syukkies both had poor experiences with public transport to share.
Virdi described the situation at Bishan MRT:
"There was utter chaos at the Bishan Circle line Station at around 5pm today when trains did not arrive for more than 50 minutes.
"Regular announcements were being made every 15 minutes that the train services would resume in five minutes but this went on for nearly an hour.
"No SMRT person was seen to quell the crowd or take stock of the situation, I wonder if Singapore is prepared for disaster in any form."
Syukkies also expressed disappointment at the service provided by bus operators:
He wrote:
"An hour-long wait for a single bus at the interchange?
"Just imagine, after a long day of school and work, that you would be left waiting at the bus interchange for an hour, part of a long queue of commuters waiting for just a single bus to arrive at the berth.
"That is exactly what happened on Friday, 15 July, at around 7.20pm at Woodland Regional Interchange where commuters were eagerly waiting for bus service 168.
"Disappointingly, the bus only arrived around 8.19pm, which about an hour's wait, leaving the commuters wondering about where the buses had been and when would it arrive.
"Its neighbouring bus service 161 had cleared a long queue at its berth and with approximately 15 buses within that hour. Still, not a single bus service 168 had come to clear its long queue of commuters.
"Some bus drivers from bus service 168 had apologised to commuters boarding their buses. Kudos to them who actually sacrificed their break time in order to 'compensate' for the unexpected bus delay.
"We cannot directly blame the bus drivers as they were just doing their job; but what about the bus operators? What would they do when these incidents happen?
"These bus drivers, whose earnings are just peanuts, will always have to take the blame directly from commuters. Their blame is only indirectly placed on the bus operators who manage the transport services and operations.
"It is understood that unpredictable events such as traffic jams might occur occasionally but it is advisable for bus operators to do a follow-up or exercise alternative plans if these incidents would occur at any time and to prevent these situations from happening and further improve their service in future to gain the public trust's in their efficiency.
"Also, with the recent controversial news of their fare hike request, these transport operators really have to show the public that they really deserve more money."
