A former marine police officer was yesterday jailed for life for killing his 25-year-old sex partner by dumping her half-naked body in the waters off Ap Lei Chau two years ago.
A seven-member High Court jury unanimously found taxi driver Wan Kim-chung, 45, guilty of suffocating accountant Jennifer Yu Wai-yuk before throwing her unconscious into the sea on October 27, 2010.
An autopsy revealed that Yu died from drowning.
Justice Andrew Macrae said it was clear Wan had been obsessed with Yu.
The prosecution revealed that Wan served in the police for 13 years but was fired after committing an indecent assault in 1996.

He was subsequently jailed for 10 months before becoming a taxi driver.
Wan met Yu in 2009 when she took his taxi and they later became intimate. Wan said he often loaned her money in exchange for sex.
He told the court that on the fateful day, Yu wanted to end their relationship as her German boyfriend was returning from Beijing, and demanded that he lend her money. When he refused, she reportedly called him a poor taxi driver who was no match for her boyfriend.
Wan flew into a rage and strangled Yu. She then fell unconscious and he put her into the trunk of his taxi, drove to Ap Lei Chau and dumped her in the sea.
Wan told the court he thought she was already dead.
Her body was found in the sea about 300 meters from the shore the following day.
Wan was arrested after a CCTV recording showed his cab parked on Lee Nam Road waterfront close to where the body was found.
Bloodstains found on the seat of his cab matched the DNA of Yu.
The defense argued that Wan was in love with Yu and, even though he knew she had a boyfriend, he would still go out regularly with her and friends.
As a result of their relationship, it is believed Wan fell into debt.
Wan said friends of Yu told him that she used his money to fly to Beijing to see her boyfriend. They said he was silly for having fallen for her.
