HK reports 123 HIV infections in Q2
Xinhua, August 27, 2013
A total of 123 cases of HIV infections were reported in Hong Kong in the second quarter of 2013, the Health Protection Center said on Tuesday.
Sexual contact remained the major source of HIV transmission in the city, according to the center.
Of the 123 cases reported in March-June, 64 were infected via homosexual or bisexual contact, 27 via heterosexual contact, two through drug injection, and one through blood or blood product transmission occurring outside Hong Kong.
The routes of transmission of the remaining 29 cases were undetermined due to inadequate information.
The newly diagnosed cases comprised 105 males and 18 females, bringing the city's cumulative reported HIV infections to 5,922 since 1984 when the first case was recorded.
Twenty-two new cases of AIDS patients were also reported in this quarter, bringing the number of Hong Kong's confirmed AIDS cases to 1,387 since 1985.
