Unfortunately, stereotypes exist because they are pretty accurate. During my recent vacation to Spain, pickpockets targeted my family as well as some tourists we met in Madrid and Barcelona. They were unsuccessful, but the people who followed us and one who was caught trying to open my waist pouch, were either Africans or gypsies.

My family went to Barcelona to take in the sights, food and culture; we didn't travel there to experience pickpocketing first hand. LOL!
