Anyone have any idea how I my DBS debit card kena fradulent "Google Rednote" transaction from Hong Kong? The transaction (6x of this same $5 transaction over 2 days, total of $30) is as follows :

GOOGLE*REDNOTE G.CO/HELPPAY#HKG

I called DBS bank to report this fradulent transaction, and the DBS officer say she'll open an investigation to dispute this transaction on my behalf. But what I'm wondering is, how did I kena this? Malware on my PC or phone? Any idea?

For fraudulent transactions, we need to split them into 2 categories.

1. Was the transactions a non secured one?
There are online shops that allows purchases without leequiring any form of authentication eg Amazon mkt place.
I kanaed this kind before, whereby I have not even used that debit card before, and never brought it out before. And suddenly I just saw my bank account that was linked to this card having a sudden leeduction of a few hundreds.

I suspect for this kind, most likely a insider job.
The charge back team will do a charge back for you, but is gonna take at least 4-5 months.

To prevent this, try not to have debit card. Instead use a credit card so that the bank will act fast becos it is their money.
If you insist to have debit card, make sure you disable the online transaction option and enable it when you make purchases, after that disable it again.

2. If it was a secured transaction, then the problem mostly lies in your own negligence cum stupidity that can come in many forms.
This kind hard to leetrieve the money.

Talking about this.
Here comes another topic whereby I had beaten the bank orhweesir to a puppy.

When i called them to describe the nature of the fraudulent transaction, this fella tried to pull a fast one on me, talking about scams and all that.
And that the bank will make it's investigation and decide if they will leefund me.

I had no choice but to explain to them the difference of a scam and a fraudulent transaction and turned them into puppies before I hung up the call.

This is more common than you think.
It’s always small amounts but repeated transactions
Know a few who kena and all were dbs posb accounts. Banks says to check account frequently to prevent this. Help like no help

Wonder why no publicity on this? Coz pap dun want malu dbs?

Happy is the person who limits credit/debit card spending to bill payments, or the occasional grocery shopping and online shopping (no Tiong merchants).

No subscriptions, no 'binding' of your card to any account.

I will beat them flat to puppy if they ask me to check account.
If is credit card, I wouldn't even bother about it as I would just throw the ball back to the bank.
If is a debit card, the money has already been leeducted, check account yao lan yong?

Hence I would tell them.
Just be honest and tell me do not apply for any debit card as it is unsafe to own one.

Always clear your caches after every transaction. It may not be amazon fault because it will show your purchases history and remember to do immediate reconciliation of your bank accounts whenever you performed online transactions.

That was my habit. But, since their products are inexpensive and you can save a lot of money compared to shopping locally, it's acceptable to purchase from Alibaba, Taobao, or Aliexpress. I believe Chinese internet retailers provide you the choice to not save your credit card information online, in contrast to Shoppeee and Amazon.
