When you are old and bedridden, the medical facility there are lacking.

Chiangrai is a good place for vacation. But for retirement, you have to consider the following factors.

1. Do you speak enough Thai? Most Thai outside Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and Koh Samui cannot really speak English nor Chinese
2. Any good hospital or medical facilities in Chiangrai? When you are old, you need that.
3. Do you have any friends there?
4. What are you going to do during your free time? Chiangrai City is a small city.
5. Is travelling back to Singapore or other international cities easy?

Actually between Chiangrai and Chiangmai, Chiangmai is a better choice, considering the above.

If you can speak Thai why not.

Otherwise you will be very lonely.

Good advice, Bro.

Perhaps with Chiangrai, one is less likely to bump onto Sinkies :)

My last trip to CR was almost 10 years ago. Yes, a bit ulu and the night market was nothing to shout about. No major shopping centres too. Not sure how far it has improved since then.
