HDB and BCA put up ads to recruit foreigners for PMET positions

The PAP regime has always claimed that foreigners are needed to take up jobs “shunned” by Singaporeans. However, two PAP-controlled statutory boards HDB and BCA (Building and Construction Authority) put up advertisements on Contact Singapore today seeking foreigners for jobs which can otherwise be taken up by Singaporeans:

According to its website, Contact Singapore is an alliance of the Singapore Economic Development Board and Ministry of Manpowe which aims to attract global talent to work, invest and live in Singapore. (read more here)

It actively links Singapore-based employers with global talent and provides updates on career opportunities and industry developments in Singapore.

All the jobs listed on the portal are for foreigners only. Singapore citizens need not apply.

To put it bluntly, Contact Singapore is a government agency funded entirely by Singaporeans to bring foreign workers into Singapore to compete directly with them for jobs which can otherwise be taken up by them.

There is even a list of “success stories” on its website depicting foreigners who obtained jobs in Singapore and eventually become Singapore PR with its help. (read more here)

Does Singapore lack engineers, architects and building managers that we have to recruit them from overseas? Are these jobs “shunned” by Singaporeans?

What is even more shocking is the criteria listed by HDB for its position of Engineer for car park works:

It is stated that potential foreign applicants need only possess a “good degree in Civil or Structural engineering from a recognized university” regardless of the grades. The list of “recognized universities” is also not revealed.

With the public sector and government-linked companies taking the lead to recruit foreigners, it is little wonder that Singapore citizens are pushed down the pecking order in the labor market.

In other countries like Australia, Canada and New Zealand, employers must first prove that they are unable to recruit a local for a position after numerous attempts before they can hire a foreigner and even then the foreigner must posess basic qualifications such as proficiency in the English language.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong promised to “scale down” the inflow of foreign workers from 100,000 to 80,000 this year. From the looks of it, the influx of foreigners is still ongoing unabated even as the next election looms ahead.

The “foreign talents” employed by HDB and BCA for the above positions will probably be given Singapore PRs pretty soon and “fast-tracked” to become new citizens just in time so that they can vote for the PAP in the coming election to keep it in power for another fifty years or more.
