It may have been a hard fight between Singapore and Haiti yesterday (Aug 22) for a spot in the YOG football finals, but it was an even harder fight for fans to get tickets to watch the much anticipated semi-final match.
In fact, getting tickets was so hard that six youths decided to risk their lives and scale a carpark wall in order to watch the match for free.
The six youths allegedly stepped on a hose reel box to scale the wall. One wrong step up the six-storey structure could have ended in injury or even death.
STOMPer fanatic wonders why it was so difficult for the public to purchase tickets.
He says:
"Long queues of people were snaking outside Jalan Besar Stadium hoping to buy tickets.
"Demand for the tickets were so high that touts were waiting outside the stadium.
"Some fans who were tired of waiting resorted to buying exorbitantly priced tickets from the touts.
"Tickets from $7.50 to $15 were going for $50 to $70 for yesterday's match.
"I think the six boys who scaled the wall did so because they had no other choice.
"This isn't the first time this problem has surfaced.
"When Daryl Tan won S'pore's first YOG medal in taekwondo his parents were unable to witness the moment as they couldn't get tickets.
"The YOG organisers should look into this matter immediately."
