STOMPer concerned parent was shocked to discover that a netizen had posted up tips about carrying different types of weapons in Singapore on an online forum.

The netizen had apparently done so as he was concerned for the safety of the public, in light of recent youth and gang-related crimes.

In his post, he said:

"It's clearly getting more dangerous to be outside nowadays in Singapore.

"I seriously think we all need to know some form of basic protection knowledge."

He then goes on to describe ways in which to obtain and use weapons such as a folding knife, sharpened stick and a screwdriver.

STOMPer concerned parent, who came across this disturbing post, says:

"Even if it is for defensive purposes, how can someone provide such a detailed analysis on what weapons to use?

"It even includes pictures and instructions on how to make weapons at home!"

No need to go online for these tips. When we were in Secondary school already we discussed this religiously at tuckshop and during Chinese class (no one payed attention.) Favourite one was razor blade in the collar. We even made zip-guns that worked. At workshop, some made belt buckles that doubled as knuckle dusters and someone even crafted a fighting ring that could slice flesh like a razor.

But know what? We weren't that dumb to use them. There were ALWAYS better things to do than get into fights. Teen life was fun. We organized games (badminton and soccer mostly), bbqs, camps, parties, jammed (for the musically inclined), drag raced bikes. Some got stoned, like moi.

So, what's with the current "wave" of violence? Affluence? Parents' career chase?

Bros, spend time with ya kids and be role models. Accept mediocrity (any better word?) and have your kids involve in something other than hanging around too much. Church ain't a bad thing.

Cheers!
