That is why the Kra Canal must be built. The Jurong Island petrochemical industries can fuck off and be replaced by a third IR. Instead of oil tankers, you'll see megayachts and luxury cruise ships. Less pollution. Everybody wins.

If you believe in peak oil there probably isn't much petroleum left in the planet anyway. Electric cars will be more cost efficient in the years to come. Better to plan ahead in advance.
