SINGAPORE: The Government on Friday (May 23) pledged to uphold good governance – a key pillar of the Republic’s success, it said....the Government promised to continue “building on our strong foundations of responsible and sustainable financial management, a fair and consistent system of rules and laws, and a first-class public service”.
To ensure a fair and consistent system of rules and laws, all foreigners in SG must be punished adequately for committing offences in the country. Sending them to jail or punishing them by imposing fines is a child's play. They must be deported after conviction in court to deter other foreigners from committing the same offences.
Take the case of the Brit bank director who whacked the elderly taxi driver and he was punished with just a small fine. Next, another foreigner who was the Italian restaurant owner also committed the same kind of offence. If there is no effective deterrence, which is to deport them, these foreigners are not afraid of being charged in court for committing offences in SG.
