A woman is facing possible charges after her ‘Gone Girl’ stunt went wrong.

Jennifer Alvarez, from Arizona in the United States, faked her own abduction so she could get out of organising a birthday party for her boyfriend, the Mirror reports.

But her plan went awry when her frantic partner called police.

He told officers two of his guns had gone missing and that there was blood streaked in his house.

Authorities launched a search for Alvarez fearing she had been kidnapped.

But later that day, a man called police to say she was safe and had been staying at his house.

When the 36-year-old returned home that night she told police she had faked her disappearance because she was worried about planning her boyfriend’s party.

She claimed the blood in the house was from a dental filling that had fallen out.

But after further questioning, Alvarez changed her story and said two men had come to the house and stolen her partner’s guns.

She then told officers she came up with the elaborate plan so that her boyfriend would not get angry about the missing weapons.

Police said Alvarez smashed her mobile phone and scratched the inside of her gums to leave blood.

Alvarez then tried to sell officers a third version of events before they called her out.

"Alvarez admitted she staged this entire abduction,” Sheriff Paul Babeau said.

"The sheriff's office and Casa Grande police expended many hours and our full attention to locate her, when we could have been working other cases.

"At the conclusion of this investigation, we intend to file charges against Alvarez."
