Glass chandelier at Putien Northpoint collapses during lunch hour, 1 diner injured

A glass chandelier at Putien Northpoint in Yishun suddenly collapsed midway through the lunch-hour rush on Jul. 31.
Some of the wires holding the restaurant's centrepiece in place appeared to have given way, causing the structure to slump to the side.
Glass rods also fell from the chandelier and shattered on the ground.
One Mothership reader said she had been at the shopping mall when she "suddenly heard a woman screaming, followed by loud shattering noises".
The screaming and shattering continued for over five minutes.
When she and her sister went to check on the situation, they saw that the chandelier had fallen.
Broken glass littered the floor, and a crowd of onlookers gathered outside the restaurant.
Staff, including chefs, attended to situation
A video submitted by another reader showed the aftermath of the incident.
Staff, including chefs still in their uniforms, worked with diners to lower the collapsed chandelier onto the ground.
As a few men helped to stabilise the feature, one chef in particular climbed onto the table to disconnect the chandelier from the wires.
While this was happening, glass rods continued to fall from the chandelier around the men. But he remained unfazed.
They finally managed to ease it onto the floor.
A woman could also be seen sobbing some distance away. It is unclear if she was injured.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that they had received a call for assistance, and conveyed one person to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Putien's response
Responding to Mothership's queries, a Putien spokesperson said it is "deeply sorry" for the incident.
One diner was injured in the incident, and she was immediately attended to by the restaurant manager.
She has since received medical attention at a hospital and returned home.
"As a precautionary measure, we will also be conducting additional safety checks across all our outlets," the spokesperson added.
