Former bank staff fined for unauthorised access to bank account

Posted: 13 April 2012 1356 hrs

SINGAPORE: A former United Overseas Bank Limited employee has been fined S$25,200 for accessing the bank's database without authorisation.

28-year-old Sheena Seng Wan Ru had accessed her ex-boyfriend's bank account and illegally withdrew some S$7,000 in cash as she was upset with him for ending the relationship.

Seng was a part-time customer service assistant at the bank, where she handled customers' transactions and had access to the bank's computer server.

Seng pleaded guilty to six charges under the Computer Misuse Act.

25 other similar charges were taken into consideration.

The court heard that Seng, who was in a shaky relationship with the person then, felt "betrayed and let-down" by him.

According to Seng's lawyer, she felt it was "justifiable for her to access his bank account".

She made withdrawals on more than 30 occasions between January and March 2010.

She also made seven purchases worth about S$2,100 with her ex-boyfriend's debit card, and forged his signatures on the cash withdrawal forms.

He was not in the country at the time of the offences.

In mitigation, her lawyer told the court that Seng, who is currently married with a baby daughter, was a first-time offender.

He also noted that she did not access the accounts of other bank customers.

For accessing the bank's computer server without authorisation, Seng could have been jailed up to two years, fined up to S$5,000, or both, for each charge.

If a man were to commit the same crime, it would be call misappropriating funds. Women, just misuse computers. What kangaroo courts. :D

Be fair punish her just like anyone. Dont pity her because of the gender. KNN really hate women charter law. Judge when see cheebye mind cannot think as normal judge will do.

Another fucked and chucked bitch who couldn't take being dumped.

That said, it does not speak well of local banks in Singapore, when bank employees can easily commit such crimes.

Still, never ever tell a broad details about your bank financials (bank balance, account number, PIN number, number of accounts, which bank(s) etc.).

And please, do not be a dumbfuck and open a joint bank account with her.

If you want to know about the so-called 'gender equality' in Singapore (or any country), think of a crime. Any crime.

Reverse the genders and see if the punishment is the same.

Singapore is fucked up, but some other countries are worse. Notably, they are the more 'progressive' (read: feminism-infected) countries: Sweden, America, Canada, Australia, UK.

Next tum, introduce "Lanjiao Misuse Act".

Also "Weapons Misuse Act":o

next time any female commit crime ..singapore goverment can come out with cheeby itchy act ...make the crime sound less serious .

I am so bloody angry reading this. She got away with a fine, a person entrusted to managed funds. Was there not a case of a man who broke into a company and stole it's cash register? He ran off with it only to discover it had a few dollars. He was jailed for many months for the theft.

Now tell me who is the bigger thief, the trusted employee with access to all the funds or an outsider who broke into the store?
