When she found her laptop and its pouch missing from her wardrobe last December, she confronted her eldest child.
But the girl, Nurul Aisyah Osman, also known as Siti Nur Janah Osman, 18, a part-time waitress, denied taking the items.
Two days later, her mother, a retail assistant in her early 40s, filed a police report. When Nurul Aisyah was questioned by the police, she admitted to stealing her mother's belongings.
Nurul Aisyah, who was then out on bail after being found with a chopper in her handbag a month earlier, ended up being charged with theft in dwelling.
Yesterday, she was sentenced to reformative training for both offences.
