As much as I hate the pro Foreign Trash policies of PAP, and by extension the
anti-SG policies of our local universities, NUS and NTU, and how they have
sidelined local talents (such as myself), the recent incident about Alvin Tan
aka Porn Scholar has been blown out of proportions.
Firstly, I will state my opinion that Alvin has done nothing wrong. Examine
the facts.
1) His porn blog was set up in his own personal capacity (as far as I can
tell). He did not involve NUS or any of his former institutions when promoting
his sexual escapades.
2) Therefore, what he does in his personal time is frankly speaking none of
NUS’s f**king business. Why should he be expelled for blogging about his sexual
lifestyle?
A large number of comments on TRE have been criticizing the system of how we
are getting such “shitty” foreign trash. In most cases we have seen, I would
agree, but not for this one. Why?
3) There is no evidence thus far that shows that Alvin has been not
performing up to standard. Remember that the definition of a scholar is by its
very nature academic-based. So, if Alvin’s runs his own personal porn blog, but
still maintains reasonably good grades, I do not see the problem with that.
In other comments, comparisons has been drawn between Alvin the previous PRC
scholar who remarked Singaporeans as dogs. I would argue this case is different
because:
4) Alvin has made no attempt (as far as I can tell) to insult
Singaporeans.
Lastly, many people may find his liberal attitude towards sex to be “wrong”
or “offensive”, but may I remind you that:
5) Your feelings on this matter is only your opinion. Everyone is entitled to
lead his/her own life the way he/she sees fits, and since nobody is being harmed
in this incident and both parties (Alvin and his GF) are willing and obviously
have given informed consent to post their nude pictures on the net, I don’t see
the point of crucifying this chap.
6) Seriously people, if you feel offended, then don’t visit his blog.
Don’t expect the world you revolve around you.
