SINGAPORE: Singapore's ruling People's Action Party introduced its fourth batch of new candidates on Wednesday for the upcoming General Election.

Two of them are lawyers while the third candidate is with the union.

Forty-six-year-old Ang Hin Kee is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Trades Union Congress' Employment and Employability Institute.

Mr Ang joined NTUC in 2006 where he grew the Job Re-creation program to help workers become more employable and for the workplace to be more productive.

He has also been serving in committees in the Chinese Development Assistance Council.

Mr Ang has been actively involved in grassroots activities since last year.

He is the Vice Chairman of the Citizens' Consultative Committee and serves as the Chairman of PAP Cheng San-Seletar Branch and the PAP Community Foundation.

The PAP said he also helps out at the Meet-the-People sessions in Ang Mo Kio GRC.

Thirty-three-year-old Vikram Nair is a dispute resolution lawyer at Norton Rose.

Since he became a lawyer in 2005, he has assisted on a number of high profile cases, including the claim by National Kidney Foundation against its former board of directors.

Mr Nair has been assisting at Meet-the-People's sessions at Chong Pang Ward since 2008.

And as of this year, the PAP said he has been active at the neighbouring Admiralty ward.

Mr Nair is on the committee of various non-profit societies in Singapore, including one dedicated to fostering the Malayalam language.

He is also a panel member of the Social Development Unit's Partner Connection Fund which provides seed capital to dating agencies in Singapore.

Also to be fielded is 42-year-old Edwin Tong Chun Fai.

Mr Tong is a partner at Allen and Gledhill and sits on the panel of lawyers for the Legal Aid Bureau where he regularly does pro-bono legal work.

Mr Tong began his involvement in grassroots activities in 2008, as a volunteer at Jalan Besar GRC.

He has also assisted at Taman Jurong and Marsiling Constituencies.

The PAP said Mr Tong has been involved in the organisation and execution of community events and functions and that through such activities, Mr Tong has developed a keener understanding of key social issues that face Singaporeans.

The total number of new PAP candidates unveiled to the electorate is 12 so far.

The PAP has said that it will be fielding more than 20 fresh faces for the upcoming election.
