I just heard my neighbour shouting for Garang Guni to collect his piles of old newspapers but the man told him that he is not keen unless there are small electrical gadgets like mobile phone or computers and TV...

Since CNY, my ears were peaceful too because no more shouting and honking from Garang Guni men and they were now rarely in sight in our neighbourhood area.

Does anybody feel the same as me?

One of the reason is that waste paper is going for shit prices. Same else where in other countries. The paper collectors are collecting at a loss. Demand for waste paper is at all time low.

yeah recycle paper demand has crashed.
so for the time being, pls throw in your hdb bin, so they can burn it to generate electricity.
once the economy recover, then you can continue recycle newspaper.

You still recycle for the environment. Even if market demand crashed. It is a better way for all of us. :)

That's because recycle paper industry has seen prices come tumbling down. And with the fall in demand from China, the waste paper market has collapsed in many parts of the world. Thus, the karang kuni man does not find it worth while in collecting old newspaper.

recycle for environment? if no one want the paper that was supposed to be recycle, it also end up in Incineration plant. so, why waste energy, to collect paper and then send to incineration.

collecting paper for recycle need energy too.

Can I say that nobody will buy Shitty Times anymore since nobody want to collect the sheets after that.

Always make sure that you sell your stuff to a polite Singaporean karang guni man.

Great idea. Malay kampongs in the past do not have toilets in their houses. Business ends are done on banana leaves or newspapers and then thrown into the rivers Maybe the govt start a campaign to rename Singapore as fragrance island.
