HE CAME ready to gamble and was equipped with an identification card. There was only one problem - the card belonged to his wife.

The 44-year-old man was arrested after security officers at the Resorts World Sentosa casino smelled a rat.

Yesterday, police said they will take action against anyone who tries to sneak into a casino using a false identity card or allows his card to be misused.

The man is also said to have breached an exclusion order issued by the National Council on Problem Gambling.

All public assistance recipients and bankrupts are automatically barred from entering the casino.

Family members can also apply for exclusion orders to keep their loved ones from entering the casino.

The man was detained by the security officers after trying to enter the casino on Dec 27 last year. He was handed over to the police and placed under arrest.

On 27 Dec 2010, the male suspect who was issued with an Exclusion Order (EO) by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) was detained by the RWS security officers. He was handed over to the Police after he was found using another person’s identity card to enter the casino.

Investigations revealed that his 41-year-old Singaporean wife had abetted the offence by lending her identity card and had also provided false information to the Investigation Officer that she did not lend her identity card to her husband.

The two suspects will be charged in Court on 22 Jul 2011 for offences under the National Registration Act, Chapter 201. If convicted, they shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000/- or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to both.

In addition, anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5,000/-, or with both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended the security officers for their vigilance and added that the Police will not hesitate to take stern action against those who attempt to enter the casinos with false identities as well as those who allow their identity cards to be misused.</td></tr></tbody></table>
