Singapore ranked 33rd in Gallup's Global Wellbeing Surveys (2010):
- 37% of respondents rated their current and future lives as "Thriving".
- 61% of respondents rated their current and future lives as "Struggling".
- 3% of respondents rated their current and future lives as "Suffering"

That result shows that the govt has got the balance right.

If the majority were thriving, it would simply mean that life is far too easy and that govt assistance and welfare is far too readily available.

Life is like a Marathon race. Only 3 participants can win a medal and only the top few score points. This translates into prize money and endorsements.

The majority of the runners in a Marathon struggle. They aren't as fit as the leading pack because they haven't trained hard enough, they're genetically inferior or a combination of both.

If the majority of the runners in a Marathon could "thive" in every race they took part in, it could only mean that they were cheating or receiving outside assistance such as hopping on a bus instead of running.
