SINGAPORE: MediaCorp is looking for four new deejays to freshen up its radio team for all four languages.

And it's doing it reality-style, getting listeners to pick who they want to hear on air.

Singapore's first reality-based DJ quest will see eight contestants per radio station fighting for a six-month contract with MediaCorp, and a cash prize of S$5,000.

There are 32 contestants for four stations -- the English-language 98.7FM, Chinese Y.E.S 93.3FM, Malay Ria 89.7FM, and Tamil Oli 96.8FM.

Contestants are between 17 and 29 years old and include tertiary students, budding musicians and a full-time banker.

Contestant and full-time banker Mildred Felicia Yuen said: "My colleagues always makes fun of me and calls me the DJ on CNN but I never thought I'll do it professionally.

"So when my colleague saw this on TV -- or rather, he heard it on radio -- he called me immediately and said, 'stop whining at work, go and do this! If you're good, you'll win!'"
