The world-renowned Louvre museum was shut down in France after a daring heist that reportedly only took a few minutes.
While the exact contents of what was taken have not been revealed, French officials have said that at least nine pieces of jewellery of "inestimable heritage and historical value" were taken.
The thieves allegedly used a construction ladder to gain access to the museum.
They were reportedly dressed up as construction workers.
According to ABC, the jewellery stolen once belonged to Napoleon and his wife.
A crown set with diamonds and emeralds was found broken near the Louvre after the robbery, according to a source close to the case.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the suspects fled the scene on motor scooters, adding that three or four thieves were involved.
He also said the "experienced" thieves had broken an exterior window with a disc cutter.
The stolen jewels had been kept behind glass.
Investigations are ongoing.
