Former senior property officer jailed for corruption

A former senior property officer who took bribes in order not to find fault with a subcontractor for work carried out at Marine Parade Town Council was jailed for six weeks and ordered to pay a penalty of $3,700 on Monday.
Mohd Nor Atan, 50, had admitted to two charges of getting $1,000 each from Mr Law Boon Guan, project manager of Seah & Lim Construction (S&L), and Mr Tan Peng Ho, a sub-contractor of S&L, in return for not finding fault with the repair, redecoration and improvement works carried out by the company and Mr Tan for the town council.
Nor was employed by Emasco Township Management, the managing agent of Marine Parade Town Council when he sought bribes from both men in Sept 2009 and Jun 2010.
They acceded to his requests as they did not want him to find fault with S&L's painting, repair and renovation works being done at Chai Chee and Bedok North.
