Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Former independent legislator Tsai Hao began serving a four-year prison term on Monday for vote buying in 2008.

Tsai's sentence was finalized this February after being indicted in June 2008 for buying votes during the legislative election earlier that year.

Tsai was found to have paid NT$300,000 (US$9,900) to buy votes in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County.

The vote broker bought Tsai 54 votes at a price of NT$500 each.

Tsai began his legislator tenure in 1999, and served three 3-year terms before he lost his seat in the 2008 election.
