The top scorer at the 1998 World Cup, who has been president of the Croatian Football Association since 2012, wants to take an even greater role in football's governing bodies
Former Croatia striker Davor Suker has targeted a future role with Fifa after being elected to Uefa’s executive committee.
The 47-year-old, who was the top scorer at the 1998 World Cup, has been president of the Croatian Football Association since 2012.
“[To be a] member of the Uefa executive board is the first step,” Suker told RTL. “Fifa? That’s the next step in the future, but let's go step by step.
“There's a lot of work, we have to create projects with the cooperation of the EU, Uefa and Fifa.
“We need to improve infrastructure in Croatia, to strengthen our clubs and leagues, but at same time work in the [whole] region, to help everybody.”
Suker insisted he was well aware of current unhappiness with the way football’s governing bodies are being run.
“Everybody knows that we have problems in football, but we still can help,” he added.
"I have lots of ideas, one of them is that Fifa has to be more [actively] involved. We need regional Fifa offices and we need Fifa to be closer to ‘smaller’ football nations.”
