SINGAPORE: A former Shop ‘n Save supermarket cashier has been sent to jail for six months for taking money from the till.

29-year-old Siti Nooryani Mohd Yunos admitted to misappropriating daily takings of the supermarket, amounting to some S$18,500.

Between September 2012 and February 2013, while Siti Nooryani was chief cashier at the supermarket located in Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, she deposited only a portion of the daily takings.

Siti Nooryani kept the rest of the money, and her offence came to light when the branch manager found out that the daily income for two days had not been deposited.

The accused would use the ill-gotten money for personal expenditure and to pay off loans from unlicensed moneylenders.

The court heard that no restitution was made. - CNA/gn
