FOOTIE legend Paul Gascoigne was last night fighting for his life after suffering a catastrophic reaction to alcohol withdrawal.

The frail star is in intensive care after his organs began to shut down in the hours following his arrival at a rehab clinic in the US.

A source close to the star revealed the tragic development last night. He said: “Gazza’s in a bad way. He’s much worse than he was and desperately needs help.

“He’s had really bad withdrawal symptoms relating to not drinking since arriving at the clinic.

"His internal organs are shutting down and he’s in intensive care — it’s a potentially life-threatening situation.

"If he doesn’t receive the best treatment from doctors he could die.”

Got such thing as catastrophic reaction to achohol withdrawal? I didn't know that.

Everybody is dying: Huang Wenyong, Gao Linfeng, Gazza.

Happy new year! :D

His life mirrors that of George Best

Gazza wasn't really that good lah, he can't even curl the ball properly while at Spurs - he's way way over-hyped by the British media.

when he went to Serie A - the best in the world at that time - he struggled at Lazio ! in fact Lazio had a far far better playmaker in Ruben Sosa !

Gazza was just an overweight player with an over-inflated ego that actually thought he was a big star !

and then became an alcoholic some more - trying to imitate George Best

I thought Giuseppe Signori was Lazio's playmaker and Ruben Sosa played for Inter? What do you think?

Signori was striker - Sosa used to play for Lazio then went to Inter.

Lazio was strongest when Signori was there - i've not seen a team with more fantastic attack than them.

I thought Djorkaeff was a much better playmaker than Sosa. What do you think?
