FOOD importer Chan Soo Har of Dried Seafood Trading in Sungei Kadut was fined $100,000 for importing 1,050kg of dried pork and beef products from Vietnam without a licence from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority. Chan, 62, had declared the meat products as yellow tail fish in the cargo clearance permit. The import was detected by ICA officers during the scanning of the container. Chan was unable to pay the fine and will serve the 10-week default jail sentence. The prosecuting officer had asked for the maximum fine to be imposed as Chan was a repeat offender. In 2009, he was fined $10,000 for smuggling in 700kg of dried pig tendons from Vietnam.
