Five suspected loanshark harassers nabbed

SINGAPORE - Five suspected loanshark harassers were nabbed this week, police said in two press releases.
A 42-year-old man, who was arrested on Thursday in Bukit Batok, is believed to have carried out loanshark harassments islandwide by splashing paint and scrawling loanshark graffiti on the walls. He was found after police officers followed up on a harassment case reported on Wednesday at Pasir Ris Street 53
In another case, four young men have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases in Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Woodlands and Boon Lay.
The men, aged between 15 and 20, were arrested on Thursday and Friday following investigations into one suspected case along Ang Mo Kio Ave 6. There was loanshark graffiti on the wall of the residential unit, and the grille gate was fastened using a bicycle lock.
The suspects will be charged in court on Saturday.
Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000, and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
