On October 14, New Zealand, a member of the Five Eyes alliance, was expected to award a US$2.7 billion contract to a South Korean shipyard but instead granted it to China. It also helps New Zealand save a significant amount of USD. It fully satisfies every requirement of the purchaser regarding usage, docking facilities, maintenance, and upgradability.
