An initiative by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to nab high rise litterbugs with surveillance cameras has reaped good results.
Since August last year, these cameras were placed in over 300 locations around the island where there were reported high rise littering incidents.
The problem has been tackled in 60 per cent of these locations, as there were no more complaints from residents, said a release by NEA on Wednesday.
For the remaining 40 per cent, there were only one or two reported cases. So far, 10 litterbugs have been caught since the cameras were put up.
One of them is a 60-year-old man, who was fined $800 on Tuesday for throwing a cigarette butt out of his kitchen window in November last year.
