A young woman who cheated 34 victims of nearly $18,000 was spared a jail sentence but given probation instead on Friday.

Tricia Tan Si Ying, 22, unemployed, had admitted to 17 charges of cheating and one of giving false information to the police.

Thirty-three other counts of cheating and attempted cheating were taken into consideration during her sentencing.

The court heard earlier that over a four-month period from last December, she cheated her friends and even her mother.
