Fee revision to catch up with rising costs

WE REFER to the letter by Ms Chua Poh Suan last Thursday, 'Questions about town council fee hikes'.
We would like to assure our residents that our funds are prudently managed and that our accounts are healthy. Our accumulated surplus, as recorded for the financial year 2008 to 2009, stands at $79.26 million. Having said that, it is still necessary to revise the service and conservancy charges in order to catch up with rising costs.

=> Having surplus means that revenue exceeds cost. If the costs are up and the S & C charge needs to be hiked, it can only mean that that the FAPee TRAITORS have a PROFIT MARGIN to maintain and it also shows that they are losing BIG TIME punting the surplus!

We are mindful of the need to manage the rising costs and improve on our productivity. As such, we are constantly on the lookout for new technologies that can help reduce costs. Our past efforts include installing energy-saving devices in our town and replacing the fluorescent lighting used for the lighted block signage with LED lights, which consume less energy. There are also plans in the pipeline to replace the current fluorescent lighting in the common area with LED lighting.
The Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) is implemented in batches to regulate the demand for manpower and construction materials. To date, 95 per cent of the eligible blocks within our town have enjoyed the LUP or are in various stages of progress. Maintenance costs will increase as more LUPs are completed because there will be more stops as well as more lifts to service.
The age and profiles of the properties are unique to each town council. A direct comparison may not provide an accurate gauge of the town council's performance level. To give an example, because Jurong GRC is a mature estate - meaning that many of our blocks require the LUP - our share of the LUP co-payment happens to be one of the highest among the town councils.
We thank Ms Chua for her feedback and assure our residents that the town council remains committed to serving them with the highest quality of service we can provide.
