SINGAPORE : A man was fined $1,000 in court for hurting a woman after her pet dog crossed his path.
Mika Johannes Sampovaara pleaded guilty to a charge of causing hurt to Mindy Tan Lay Eng outside her home in Siglap on February 4 last year.
The complainant had earlier asked for $50,000 as compensation. Sampovaara had offered to pay her $38,000 instead, but she refused.

Here's what happen.
Dog (golden retriever) dashed out into the path of a this “ang mo” kia. Man kicked dog. Dog's owner a Singaporean 40s lady's tried to pull her dog away, he floored her with a punch to the eye, causing her to bleed.
As she struggled to get away, he shoved her from the back, causing her to fall face first.
Madam Tan was left with a 2.5cm-long scar on her eyelid that her doctors say is likely to be permanent.
So what do this “ang mo” gets for hurting a Singaporean?
Just a mere $1,000 fine!
Since this 'ang mo' already set the standard, next time Singapore citizens with the same crime, should get the equivalent punishment.
I am beginning to question the value of our Singapore citizenship.

This article was written by A Nick How- but what is interesting is although the man had to plead guilty. And the victim was willing to sacrifice being compensated but getting that foreigner convicted , rather than let him settle out of court without a criminal record , it
has apparently not affected his PR status! Has the authorities taken away his PR yet? Apparently not! He is still living now in a condo in the western part of Spore!

Maybe court knows that BOTH plaintiff and dependent (ang mo assailant) wish to settle via civil suit, with a failed attempt to settle out of court; so the least they have already done is to fine the ang no without affecting his PR status: if any, at least so that he can continue yo work and not say liquidate his HDB flat so that if the gal ('Mindy') should proceed with civil suit, maybe can still get the $50k damages if judge agrees that that is the value of the loss she suffered (mental anguish, damaged eye etc cos seems like she was manhandled).

Anyhow, looks like this is a 2006 case (no longer on CNA website), wonder how the case has turned out to date...
