HANOI (VNS, 21 Oct) – Fifteen Vietnamese high school students were awarded
ASEAN Scholarships to study in Singapore.

The Singapore Embassy organised a ceremony last week to honour the
scholarship recipients attended by Ambassador Ng Tech Hean and representatives
from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and
Training.

The students – 12 from the north and three from the central and southern
regions – were chosen for their excellent studying.

The ASEAN Scholarships aim to equip young people in Southeast Asian countries
with important skills for the 21st century. Recipients are provided with
allowances, accommodations, return air passage, school fees, examination fees
and medical insurance.

They obtain Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced’
certificates and finish their Secondary Three to Pre-University Two degrees in
Singapore.

Other recipients come from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao P.D.R, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Thailand and the
Philippines.

Even Cambodians, Laotians, and other chap pa langs are deemed better than SGs as long as they can be used to outvote SGs.

I hope the US will drop nuclear bombs into Vietnam to wipe out the communists.

My sis has been struggling with my niece’s Poly’s fees and now the U’s. My
niece is a local born and bred. Why our gahmen don’t offer her the scholarship
instead?

My bro-in-law is grumbling & nagging at my sis almost everyday ‘coz he
was against letting my niece continue with her U studies since he’s on contract
work and earning an irregular income.

This gahmen of ours really jiak sai (eat sh!t). Why went all the way to other
countries to throw money at other people’s children when our very own ones need
help?

Anyway, my niece is eligible to vote in the next GE, and I don’t have to tell
you what’s her choice especially when she kept reading about such news and
knowing that most of her foreign peers are paying nothing while she has to worry
about hers.

It is only rational and nationhood for the government to look after her
people first. In this case has the Government ensures that no Singaporean family
is overloaded with the education expenses of their children before it starts
planning for giving scholarship to foreign students as a diplomatic strategy.

The fact that education fees keep on increasing particularly University level
over the past few years and is warned that further increase will be imposed.
This is ridiculous in the context that support of overseas students taking in
the scholarships awarded, subsidised fees (fees for the foreign students are
only marginally higher than local!)

PAP seems to be having a philosophy of
giving more to others while charging more for their citizens. This is plain
stupidity of a Government. Government’s primary concern is welfare of the people
and only having taken care of the citizens to a level commensurate with the GDP
(a favourite index of PAP but has been widely considered to be a grossly bad
indicator of its distribution to the general citizenry) before attempting to
dish out to help foreigners. H

ope the young generation of Ministers having
gotten the millions too early in their life haven’t forgotten the rest of the
citizenry. Glorifying own kampong roots or poor roots is plain arrogance in that
the correct attitude is not to forget own roots and help other to do the same
thing. PAP election campaign boast of many from poor background does not mean
anything any more for they know it is no glory for them except if these poor
background parliamentarians and ministers work to uplift the rest of the
children from the same background. Else it is plain self glorification and not
fit for public service as elected members of the Parliament. Similar with
President Charity Events, Singaporeans will like to know whether the President
leads in the Charity drive. Let the President contribution to charity be known
as a catalyst to enhance the charitable spirits of the citizenry. However it is
imperative to realise that charity can only be a supplement but not the main
bulk of uplifting the life of the less fortunate family. The bulk of support
should rationally be the responsibility of the Government and the Policy Mission
of any political parties particularly the ruling party and in the present case
is PAP. Has PAP shown adequately that it is so. Under the prevailing conditions,
more and more Singaporeans seem to feel it is not working in their interest and
PM is aware that the faith and trust factor is noticeably decreasing as he has
been reported to work towards regaining the trust and faith. However saying is
one thing but doing at snail pace is another couple with the Ministers
persistent justifying status quo operating policy! GE2011 was a watershed
election. GE2016 will be an awakening one for PAP 5 decades single party rule
topped with absolute arrogance and for Singaporeans the e**l of single party
dictatorial regime. where voices become noises!

Singaporean parents have to struggle to keep their jobs that are being
challenged by the multitude of foreigners that this PAP Government let into
Singapore.

These Singaporean parents have to find money to fund all the curricular that
are created by the PAP managed Ministry of Education that place added burden
onto our children on top of the heavy emphasis on text-book education plan.

Where are the support from this PAP Government to Singapore parents and
children ?

The PAP Government continue to plunder Singaporean wallets, saving accounts
and our CPF funds, and give little in return that can be considered free.

The dubious subsidies claimed by the PAP Government is nothing more than
cheap scams of retailers that mark-up the prices before giving a hefty
discount.

It is time for Singapore to expose the PAP shenanigan in their dealings with
Singaporean, whom they consider Singaporean to be ‘DAFT’ and insist on “managing
perceptions” in their attempts to get us to read the “right stuff”.

Wake up Singapore to the ‘DUPLICITY and HYPOCRISY’ of the
PAP before we are sunk by their bankrupt self-serving policies.

请不要再用人民的血汗钱去贴外国人的冷屁股!除非钞票上面印的是你家的人头照!

Scholar does not mean he/she can be a good MP/Minister or Prime Minister.
With that kind of 20 years apprenticeship under 2 masters, even the Ah Peh/Ah
Mah can be groom to be at least a MP.

These people from various nations whom you are recruiting are not
STUPID.
For example, please have a look at this

Only our ICA or
MOM are sleeping…..

By 2016, we will vote you OUT!

These are intelligent and driven individuals and they deserve the scholarships.

I wish them every success. I'm sure the investment that Singapore has made will returned manyfold.

I just met my Malaysian distributor this week in KL. He told me that his son
who just completed Form 5 (‘O’ Levels equivalent in Malaysia) had applied for
this Asian Scholarship online and that it was Singapore Government that offered
him a scholarship to study in Singapore from ‘A’ Level to University. All
expenses paid and guess what is the most insulting and irritating factor of all.
There was no bond whatsoever attached to this scholarship. That means that
Malaysian student is invited to study in Singapore with all expenses paid with
our money and yet he can decide to go back Malaysia without any strings
attached!

The biggest joke of it all is that the father told me that he had rejected
the offer. When I expressed my surprise and asked him why, he simply told me
that the education system in Singapore was too “stone” for his liking. I did not
understand what exactly he meant, but that was his exact words.

Are our very own top performing students from our secondary schools going to
be getting scholarships so easily? And will our own children be given the
scholarships without any bonds?????

I already know the reply from SAM. He'll tell you that even if only 1 out of 100 had made S'pore his/her home, it's already considered a very successful investment strategy.
