INSULTING THE MODESTY OF TWO WOMEN
Extortionist jailed
By Elena Chong
A MAN who tried to extort $10,000 from a woman he had been harassing for sex, was jailed and ordered to be caned on Tuesday. Ho Wee Beng, 45, pleaded guilty to insulting the 47-year-old woman's modesty and trying to extort $10,000 from her in August and September in 2010.
He also admitted to two charges of insulting the modesty of two women and had six other similar charges taken into consideration. A district court heard that Ho began calling the victim from his mobile phone in August and asked if she wanted to have sex with him.
The following month, she answered one of his calls and asked if he wanted money from her. Ho told her that if she gave him $10,000, he would stop calling her. Arrangements were made for her to hand over the money under a seat at a bus stop in Sembawang Way on Nov 8.
Police laid an ambush nearby and arrested him in the early hours of Nov 9. Ho was jailed a total of 2 1/2 years and six weeks, plus four strokes of the cane.
