ALOR SETAR - Kedah police arrested three men and seized a pistol, drugs and live bullets at a hotel in Jalan Kampung Perak here.
One of the men is a 37-year-old bouncer at an entertainment outlet here while the other two, both aged 39, are a simulator game operator and debt collector.
The three were arrested inside a room at the hotel at about 12.30pm on Wednesday.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said police seized three packets of substance believed to be syabu, weighing about 5.10gm, an automatic pistol and 10 live bullets inside the room.
He said two of the suspects have more than 10 criminal records, including drug possession, robbery and possession of firearms.
"They have been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations," he said, adding that since early this year Kedah police have seized seven pistols.
"We have also beefed up security along the border with Thailand to curb illegal firearms smuggling activities.
"We are working closely with other agencies under the Home Ministry to curb the problem," he said after launching Ops Selamat yesterday.
The operation was launched at the Hutan Kampung toll plaza along the North-South Expressway, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations next week.
DCP Ahmad said a total of 300 police personnel would be on duty during the 15-day operation which began yesterday.
"We will also take more creative enforcement measures to ensure smooth traffic flow during the festive holidays," he said.
