China CNR Corporation, the country's leading manufacturer of railway equipment, secured domestic and overseas orders worth 10 billion yuan (US$1.6 billion) this year, reports the weekly Chinese-language Economic Observer.
The company won the bidding to manufacture all subway trains in Shanghai and Chongqing and won 60% of the train order for Line 14 of the Beijing subway system. In addition, the company also wrapped up contracts for subway trains in the cities of Wuhan and Dalian.
Overseas, the company signed a contract to build a tram system in Brazil in time for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 Olympics and also sealed deals to provide subway trains for Thailand and Singapore.
The company also counts an advanced tram project worth 5 billion yuan (US$800 million) based on the build and transfer model in Shenyang in China's northeast among its revenue for the year. The trams will run on rails but do away with overhead electric cables.
The company has successfully operated the low floor advanced tram system in the northeastern city of Changchun and exported the system to Turkey.
